LEAGUE NOTES:
WEEK #10 - WINTER II SEASON
Thrashers Dowse Flames
6 - 1 in Championship
"Defense Wins Championships" held true again for the Thrashers as they went on to win 6-1 in the championship game in the SNHL. Doug Gallacher (2g,1a) put the Thrashers on the board first with a nifty goal fed from Matt Putney (1g,1a). The Flames were able to get one back in the second when Mike Fiorenza (1g) put one by Thrashers goalie Jim Fitzgerald. That was all Fitzgerald and the Thrashers would allow for the rest of the game. The Thrashers returned the favor in the second, plus one, when Matt Ferro (1g) scored with the assist coming from Brian Gangemi (2a) and then Gallacher scored his second of the game. The Flames found themselves down 3-1 going into the third but were unable to score or stop the Thrashers relentless offense. The Thrashers tallied three more goals in the final period with two coming from Tom Costa (2g) and the other by Putney. The Flames' goalie Alex Moskovsky played well but took the loss in net.
Penguins and Coyotes Tie
4 - 4 in Consolation Game
The Coyotes came out of the gate fast and furious and scored first when Steve Anderson (1g) sniped one by Penguins goaltender Alex Moskovsky. Assists on Andersons goal went to Patrick Higgins (1a) and Peter Leary (2a). Down 1-0 The Penguins rallied back in the second when Brian Tommaro (2g,1a) scored two goals. Unfortunately for the Penguins the Coyoted scored two of their own. Both goals were scored by Fred Jones (2g). In the third the Penguins came back with goals by Al Barbati (1g,1a) and Shawn Coventry (1g) but the Coyotes were able to pop in another by Kevin Nazarian assisted by Steve Anderson. The Penguins and the Coyotes were tied 4-4 at the end of regulation. Both Alex Moskovsky and Jerry Abrecher played well in net.
