AKES Involvement

The lesson plans are being field-tested in schools worldwide and particularly in Pakistan, Kenya, Tanzania, and India using the AKES and the IAP as facilitators and distributors. In addition to this role, the AKES has also been used to provide field consultants who have offered advice and counsel for the project as well as acting as coordinators and teacher trainers for the delivery of the curriculum project:

Farida Charania -- Social Studies Teacher, Diamond Jubilee School, Bombay, India

Ashrafi Ghadiali -- Economics Teacher, Diamond Jubilee School, Bombay, India.

Farida and Ashrafi teach economics topics and principles to younger students within other disciplines, particularly social studies. They also visited Phillips Academy in April/May 1997 where they visited economics classes, developed lesson plans, and discussed global curriculum units and innovative teaching ideas.
Peter Moyi -- Economics Teacher, The Aga Khan Academy, Nairobi, Kenya.
Peter teaches economics up to "A" level, visited Phillips Academy in 1997 where he observed economics classes and discussed curriculum proposals and teaching methodology with the PA economics department. Peter was also a member of the 1998 summer team that visited India and Pakistan to observe economics classes and work with teachers and was one of the faculty leaders of the 1999 Teacher Workshop in Karachi.
Moshin Tejani -- Head of School, Aga Khan School, Kharadhar, Karachi, Pakistan.

In addition to the faculty who are writing and testing the lessons, there is also a group of interested faculty who are acting as editors, coordinators, and advisors on an ad hoc basis. These faculty are economists and teachers who are both interested in and familiar with economics education at the international level. Two faculty have already agreed to join the project to act in this capacity and others will be recruited as the project progresses. The two ad hoc consultants currently involved are:
Ms. Margaret Wilson -- VCE Coordinator, Presentation College, Windsor, Victoria, Australia who is coordinating a trial of the lessons in some schools in Australia.

Dr. Ashifa Jiwani -- Education Officer, The Institute of Ismaili Studies, London, England who is coordinating a trial of the lessons in some schools in England.
