"The King's Arms Hotel":

"... the chief hotel in Casterbridge -- namely the King's Arms. A spacious bow-window projected into the street over the main portico...." Here Susan Henchard and her daughter observe the Mayor, who sold her for 5 guineas at the Weydon-Priors Fair 19 years earlier. (Ch. V)


 

"The Mayor's House":

This building, now a Barclay's Bank in the center of Dorchester, is regarded as the model for Michael Henchard's house: "Henchard's house was one of the best, faced with dull red-and-grey old brick." (Ch. IX)
