The Andover-Exeter boys varsity squash match was something
of a test of endurance, and the PA squad passed the test with
flying colors. Both Henry Manice and Harry Goldstein came
from well behind and defeated their PEA opponents with steady,
determined play in the fourth and fifth games of their matches.
Playing in front of an enthusiastic crowd in their final home
match, the Blue team showed its strong conditioning and fine
skills on the way to a 6-1 win that raises the team's season
record to 12-4 heading into this weekend's Interscholastic
tournament.
On Friday afternoon the boys varsity squash team traveled
to Groton and came away with a 4-3 win. Next up for the Big
Blue is their annual showdown with rival Exeter in the last
dual match before the Interschols. Andover will host the Big
Red on Wednesday afternoon with action scheduled to begin
at 2:00 pm.
The PA boys varsity squash team took on Milton Saturday, facing
a team on which all but one are returning players from last
year. The result tipped decidedly in Milton's favor 6-1. The
lone winner for Andover was Dan Wagman '06, who, according
to Coach Cone, "played the best match I have seen him
play!"
Despite PA's #2 player being hurt, the boys varsity squash
team defeated
Loomis on Wednesday, as everyone else rose to the occasion
and played well.

Saturday's squash match with St. Mark's Varsity was a combined
Varsity and JV team effort for PA. Andover won 6-1 with Elliot
Beck, Harry Goldstein, and Kirk Lepke contributing wins from
the varsity. Also in the match-up with the St. Mark's varsity,
Jack Thorlin ('05) lost his first two games rather badly,
then rebounded and won the next three for a 3-2 victory. The
match with St. Mark's JV was a combined JV1 and JV2 win for
PA with the final tally 4-3. Mark Margiotta ('05) played a
marathon match and won the 5th game in a tie-breaker 10-9
for a 3-2 win in games. That turned out to be the deciding
match for the JV I team on the day.
After notching their first victory of the season with a 6-1
decision over Choate, the boys varsity squash team fell to
powerful Taft 7-0 in their second match of the day on Saturday.
Taft will probably be the team's toughest opponent this year,
but "everyone improved by playing them," said Coach
Cone. "We definitely did not roll over! Choate was a
good start to our season. Our team has good depth this year."
