What is the Young Alumni Program?

The Young Alumni Program at Phillips Academy supports the classes beginning with the Senior Year at Andover through their first few years after college.   It encourages young alumni to remain connected to Andover and to each other by attending PA sponsored events on college campuses and in major cities.  Young alumni are encouraged to participate in the Andover Fund in which participation is key to the success of the program.

Hello there!

Class of 2007 – Welcome to the young Alumni Program.  Barbara Landis Chase has posted some pictures that she took as you boarded the buses for the prom this past spring.  Click here to check them out.

The Young Alumni Program at Andover has great success in its first few years, with successful programs, events and increases in donor participation.  In fact, due to its success, we need more hands to help maintain and grow the effort.  Three things have been put into place to do just that.

  1. Diane Glynn has been promoted to an Assistant Director, Annual Giving.  In that role she will work most specifically with the 10 youngest classes and senior class.  Diane and I will be working together with a goal of finding ways to increase consistent donor participation from Andover's youngest alumni.  Diane has worked closely with me.  Going forward, Diane will have primary fundraising responsibility for the 10 youngest classes and senior gift.  I will focus more on the program side. Speaking of the program side of things, the Young Alumni Committee of Alumni Council will focus on launching a series of networking events in our major regions this year.  We will have more questions for you on this, so stay tuned.  Morissa Sobelson ’05 chairs this committee.
  2. And one last exciting tidbit – this summer we are launching the 20/20 Advisory Board.  This board consists of roughly 20 volunteers from roughly the youngest 20 classes.  We kick off at the end of August and will be tapping into all of you for direction on fundraising efforts focused on Young Alumni.

I look forward to seeing many of you when I’m on the road this year.

All my best,

Jenny

Phillips Academy Graduate Wins 2007 Pulitzer Prize

Charlles Forelle '98 and three other Wall Street Journal reporters broke the scandal of companies back-dating stock options

April 19 , 2007

ANDOVER, Mass. — Journalism’s highest honor—the Pulitzer Prize—was awarded yesterday, and among the winners was Phillips Academy graduate Charles C. Forelle ’98, a reporter for the Wall Street Journal based in the newspaper’s Boston bureau. The Journal was awarded the Pulitzer Prize Gold Medal for Public Service for the work Forelle and three fellow reporters—James Bandler, Mark Maremont, and Steve Stecklow—did in uncovering and reporting the story of the widespread practice in corporate America of backdating acquisition dates of stock options in order to increase their value. This illegal procedure helped high-level management reap millions of dollars in excess compensation over the years covered in the reports, 1995-2002.   It was one of two Pulitzers won by the Journal this year, and its first-ever Public Service prize.  More
