Financial need should never discourage a student from applying for admission to Phillips Academy. Andover offers full financial aid grants for low-income families and financial aid grants and low-interest, deferred-payment student loans to meet a broad spectrum of need. To help all Andover families with financial planning, the school has created the Andover Plan, an innovative package of four payment options. Forty percent of Andover's student body receives financial aid. In 2006-07, $11.7 million dollars was awarded in financial aid scholarships. Read the November 2007 Need-Blind Announcement. Fees for the Application and Standardized Test An application fee of $40 is required with the Preliminary Application (Form 1). Additionally, all applicants to Grade 9, 10 or 11 must register for either the SSAT or ISEE standardized tests ($74 for SSAT, $65 for ISEE). Registration for these tests is handled through the respective testing agencies. Please note: Late registration charges, which are substantial, are not covered by the fee waiver. It is important to refer to the student guides for the SSAT or ISEE to determine the test dates, times and sites in your area and to encourage the student to meet the stated deadlines. A fee waiver should be requested from the Phillips Academy Admission Office if the student’s family gross income falls below $30,000 and/or the family believes payment of these fees will create a hardship. To request a fee waiver, a third party, who is familiar with the family’s financial situation (a guidance counselor, clergyman, principal, etc.) should write to the Admission Office on behalf of the family to explain the hardship. Fees for the School and Student Service (SSS) for Financial Aid SSS generates a report of family contribution (RFC), which is sent to the school(s) designated by the applicant. Applicants for financial aid must complete the SSS process and send a copy of the required forms to the Phillips Academy Financial Aid Office. The SSS fee structure is $24 to send a RFC to one school and $13 for each additional school. SSS has established fee waiver guidelines according to family income.
