2. George Washington Hall

George Washington Hall anchors one end of the main quad; it was built in 1926 and renovated just a few years ago. Here you'll find the Head of School's office, the student's beloved mail room (and major hang-out), the school's state-of-the-art theater complex, (with both the Tang and Steinbach theaters), the Elson Arts Center, the Polk-Lillard Electronic Imaging Center and the Audio-Visual Center.

Q: Did George Washington attend Andover?

A: No, but in 1789, he visited the school and was so impressed he recommended Andover to two nephews who attended.

Q: What are "state of the art" theater and audio-visual resources?

A: State-of-the-art means thoroughly up to date; as technology advances, so does Andover. The Frances Young Tang Theatre is a 400-seat flexible courtyard theater with computerized light board and sound system (and is complemented by a "black box" theater, a studio theater, a full scene shop, a costume shop, and make-up and dressing rooms.) The Audio-Visual Center and its auditorium have full video and audio recording capability, multi-media classrooms that support DVD, VHS, dual slide projection, CD, video projection and Internet access. At the adjacent Polk-Lillard Electronic Imaging Center students can import, create, manipulate and sequence professional graphics and electronic imagery.
