Addison's Collections Now Online!
The Addison’s permanent collection includes more
than 15,000 paintings, prints, works on
paper, sculpture, decorative arts, and photography
by generations of American artists. Obviously, only a
small number of these treasured objects can be on
display at any given time. To make these works more
accessible to scholars, researchers, and art lovers,
our collection is now searchable online.

We’re having an exceptional season at the Addison,
and as we pass the half way mark of our 75th

Curator's Choice: Preston Dickinson

In honor of the winter season, my thoughts turn to
one of the Addison’s treasured but little known
drawings. One of the earliest images of suburbia
produced by Preston Dickinson, this work on paper
was probably created sometime during the winter of
1915-1916 near the time the artist moved to Valley
Stream, Long Island to live with his widowed sister.
Made soon after his return to New York after a four
year stay in Paris, Dickinson's drawing is both a
reflection of his European sojourn and an early
manifestation of the Precisionist style for which he is
best known.

the Addison Gallery. “I don’t think I really had an
interest in art when I was at Phillips. It wasn’t until I
was an undergraduate majoring in architecture that
my interest in art began to grow.”

Artist's Project: Models as Muse

On permanent display since their creation, our famed
model ships continue to be a favorite of museum
visitors. Stirring the imagination, they also have
generated a great deal of discussion with the
Addison’s many artists-in-residence. It was this
ongoing dialogue that led us to invite five
contemporary artists to create new works inspired by
these magnificent objects.
