4 X 4: Selections from
The Tyler Graphics Collection
4 x 4: Selections from the Tyler Graphics Collection celebrates the major gift of 338 prints to the Addison by Tyler Graphics Ltd., and highlights the work created there by four masters of contemporary art: Robert Motherwell, Helen Frankenthaler, Donald Sultan, and James Rosenquist. Founded in 1974 by Kenneth E. Tyler, Tyler Graphics Ltd. was one of the world's preeminent print workshops, offering artists a full range of print processes, including intaglio, lithography, woodcut, screen printing, relief printing, and monotype printing. Recognized for prints that were innovative, technically challenging, and extraordinarily labor intensive to produce, Tyler Graphics enabled artists to push the boundaries of contemporary printmaking. The Tyler gift has substantially enhanced the Addison 's collection with the addition of significant works by 27 artists of national and international reputation, many of whom had not previously been represented in the collection. |
