Education and Outreach:
K-12 Teacher Programs and Resources
At the root of the Education Department’s work with students exists our primary goal to advance educators’ understanding of how the visual arts can play a critical role in the success of their teaching. When integrated as a fundamental learning tool both in the classroom and the museum, the visual arts not only introduce students of all ages to new cultural concepts and ways of critical thinking, but deepen their knowledge across all disciplines.

The Education Department engages educators in the Addison’s resources in a variety of ways. Free Educators’ Evenings, teacher workshops, and individualized curriculum development with schools and teachers elucidate ways teachers can approach artwork with their students. We offer these programs multiple times throughout the year, adapting them as each season brings new exhibitions to the galleries. In addition to the events detailed below, the Education Staff work to establish intimate, lasting relationships with individual teachers and schools, providing curriculum development through every stage of organizing a school or class visit, long-term project, or professional development course.
