The Addison Gallery of American Art produces 4" x 5" color transparencies, 8" x 10" black-and-white glossy photographs, 35mm color slides, and color prints of the works in its collection. Color transparencies may be rented for three months. Black-and-white photographs, 35mm slides, and color prints may be purchased.
Permission for reproduction in any medium must be obtained in writing from the Addison Gallery. When placing an order, please state fully the intended use of the material requested and please provide as much information as possible about each object, preferably including the accession number and/or a photocopy. Photographs are not issued on approval. A contract-invoice will be forwarded to you and photographic materials sent upon payment of fees and return of signed contract-invoice. Any fees not covered here will be determined after requests are received in written form.
Permission is granted only to the extent of the Addison Gallery of American Art's ownership of the rights relating to the request. Certain works may be protected by copyright, trademark, or related interests not owned by the Addison Gallery. The responsibility for ascertaining whether any such rights exist and for obtaining all necessary permissions remains with the applicant.
The museum reserves the right to refuse any requests and to impose such conditions as it may deem advisable in the best interest of the museum and its collections.
The Addison does not provide images in digital format for reproduction.
Visitors are not allowed to photograph within the Addison Gallery without prior, written permission from the museum.

Fee Schedule
Black and White Prints and Color Transparencies (six month delay)
8" x 10" black and white prints are available for purchase and are printed from existing negatives of objects in the collection. Orders generally require four to six weeks for processing once each object has been identified.
Color transparencies are rented for publication only. Rentals are for three months. Rental fees are payable for all transparencies whether or not they are reproduced. All transparencies remain the property of the Addison Gallery and must be returned after use. Transparencies are not available on approval.

Our reproduction is a high-grade photographic print, done in a matte finish with borders on all sides, and color-corrected by our Registrar and Curator.

A note about fees:
Due to high tariffs charged by foreign banks, the Addison requires all payments to be made by check for the exact amount due, in US dollars.
Fees not covered here are determined on a case by case basis. The Addison also reserves the right to charge a "rush fee."
