Meet the Students
Danica 2009
Stonington, CT
A tour of the art department's facilities-its printmaking and painting studios specifically-was, Danica says, the determining factor in her choosing Phillips Academy. “I loved the student work displayed. It helped me make a decision because art is so important to me.”
One would understand why. Her mother is a painter and sculptor, her father a graphic designer, her sister a painter. She enjoys music in her spare time. An acoustic guitarist before coming to Andover, she continues to take lessons at Phillips.
Danica's painting teacher, Emily Trespas, has, Mitchell says, been “amazingly influential. She's helped me develop a style and technique, at the same time leaving room for my own creativity to shine through.”
Danica can list several accomplishments on her college applications, among them, cartoon director for the school's newspaper, the Phillipian; and art projects that include posters and logos. And her academic credentials. She is an honor-roll student who enjoys the sciences, especially physics and chemistry. But, she says, she's leaning toward art school.
