Interview Process

How do I know if I am a finalist?

With these FAQs you should have received a letter informing you of your selection as a finalist. Every student selected as a finalist must have a face to face interview with the (MS)2 director. The interviews will take place in the student’s home city.

When and where will my interview take place?

Please read carefully the letter included with these FAQs. The letter details the date, the time, and the location of your interview. If your letter does not have this information, please call the (MS)2 office immediately at 978-749-4402.

What if I have a conflict with the interview date or time?

If you have a conflict, you should immediately call the (MS)2 office at 978-749-4402. You should know, however, that the director travels for two weeks straight, visiting many cities in the U.S., and he is on a very tight schedule. In most cases, it is very unlikely that the interview could be changed or rescheduled.

Can parents/guardians/family attend the interview with the student?

Yes!. We encourage an adult family member to attend the interview. In most cases, this is a parent or a guardian, but there are some instances in which it is an aunt, an uncle or an adult sibling. The finalist will be interviewed individually and then the family member(s) may come in to ask questions of the director.

What should I wear for the interview?

For many scholars, this is their first interview and the attire question is an important one. One way of describing the attire is as your “Sunday best”. Remember, you are interviewing for a prestigious nationwide program and you want to make your best impression.

What will the interview be like?

The interview will last about 40 minutes and it will be in two parts. The first part, which will last about 25 minutes, will be a one-on-one conversation between the finalist and the director. For the remainder of the time, the finalist’s parent or guardian may come in to ask any questions about the program.

How should I prepare for the interview?

Preparing for this interview is very important, just as it is to for any interview. There are several things you should do; among them, read this FAQ document and read the (MS)2 website (www.andover.edu/ms2 ) so that you have a good understanding of the program. You should spend time thinking about questions you might want to ask the director about the program.

What is the director looking for in interview?

This is the most difficult question to answer. There is no cookie cutter method that is used to determine who will be selected as an (MS)2 scholar. There are, however, several things that any interviewer is always looking for. In particular, we are looking for motivated students, students who are interested in working hard during their summers, and students who are prepared to experience living away from home for the summer.

When will I know if I have been selected as an (MS)2 scholar?

After all the interviews are completed, the Admissions Committee will make the final selections. This typically happens the last week of March and admission letters are sent out the first week of April.

If I am accepted as a scholar, what happens next?

If you are accepted into the program, you will receive a letter in early April. You will have to call us and tell us whether you would like to accept the scholarship. Once you accept the offer to become an (MS)2 scholar, you will receive a packet of information with the pertinent details concerning the summer.
