- Is transportation to Andover, MA covered if I am accepted?
-
Yes. The program will cover your transportation costs from a major airport near your city to Andover.
- How do I get to campus?
-
You will get information about the nearest major airport to your city. If there is more than one major airport, you will be asked to choose which airport to use. All scholars from the same city travel together in order that no scholar will be traveling alone.
- What clothes should I bring?
-
The weather in New England can change quickly and can have extremes with highs in the 90s and lows in the 40s. You will receive a packing list that will include clothes you might want to bring for the summer. One important thing to note is that students are not allowed to wear any clothes that depict tobacco, drugs, alcohol, or inappropriate language.
- Do I need to buy books?
-
No, all books that you will need are supplied by the program.
- Can parents bring their students to campus?
-
Families who live close enough to bring their child to campus may do so. It is the expectation that the parents will leave campus once their child is registered and settled into their dorm room. The students need time to meet their dorm mates and to begin to settle into their new routine at Phillips Academy as an (MS)2 scholar.
- Can parents visit scholars during the summer?
-
It is the understanding of the program that each scholar will be fully committed to their classes and to their activities on campus. While parents may come to visit their child, it is the expectation that the student may not miss any of their obligations. Parents should support their child’s decision to fully engage in the program. It would be wiser to save that expense for the graduation ceremony which takes place at the end of the third summer. There is usually a DVD that the scholars receive after each summer that shows highlights of each summer’s activities.
- What expenses are covered by the scholarship?
-
The program will cover transportation to campus from a major airport near the students’ hometown. We also cover expenses for all classes, food, housing, books, pencils, pens, educational materials, and weekend activities.
- What expenses are NOT covered by the program?
-
The program does not cover laundry expense, airline luggage fees, or other incidental expenses such as ordering out for pizza. For laundry, a student will typically need twenty dollars for the summer. Some students will bring some laundry detergent from home so that they do not have to spend money on campus buying it.
