Communication with Home

How does a student contact a parent or vice-versa during the summer?

All students have a phone in their room. They can always receive phone calls and they can use a calling card to make outgoing calls. For many families, if a student has a cell phone, that is the easiest way to communicate. We do ask both scholars and parents to remember that students are not allowed to use phones when classes are in session and that they should be mindful about the space around them when making calls in order not to disturb others.

Does the scholar need to have a cell phone during the summer?

No is the short answer. As mentioned above, every room has a phone and scholars can always receive calls free of charge. If a student already has a cell phone, it might be more cost effective for her/him to bring the phone to campus. We leave this decision up to each individual family.

What if parents need to reach a scholar during class time?

If there is an emergency at home, you can always call the (MS)2 office and we would be able to get the scholar out of class so they could speak with a parent. In an emergency during non-class hours, a parent may always call the Public Safety office which can get hold of the director and the scholar.
