Club Description
Eco-Action is dedicated to the preservation of environmental resources. Our aim is to educate students and lead discussions about environmental issues during club meetings. In addition, we promote various events on campus, such as movie screenings, environmental speakers, and the Green Cup Challenge.
Four main topics we have discussed during Eco-Action meetings are sustainable food, sustainable lifestyles, energy efficiency, and environmental conservation. It is imperative to educate today’s youth about humankind’s tolls on the environment, as we can see by the increasing predominance of global warming in the media. Through Eco-Action, Andover students are able to explore topics such as genetically modified foods, consumers’ impacts on the environment, pesticides, and water and energy use. We are also shifting our focus to “sustainability”—the ability to meet our needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs.
With that in mind, the Eco-Action leaders are working together to create a sustainable garden on campus and thus set a role model for other Phillips Academy students. In an attempt to understand local and global environmental topics, Eco-Action members learn about and discuss these problems and use their knowledge to campaign for sustainability and conservation on campus.
