Club Description

The Andover Philanthropist Society fundraises for various charitable causes. This club was started in 2006 to halt the spread of human trafficking in Asia. Since then, we have expanded to include a variety of other causes. One of our main events is the Swim-a-thon which we held last December. We raised $1000 and donated most of the money for Pratham, an organization that educates victims of child labor in India. The Niswarth group, led by Mr. Mundra, will be buying books for a shelter in Mumbai, India, and be delivering them this year in June. Past events include making valentines for the elderly at Academy Manor in Andover and for children at Children’s Hospital in Boston. We are currently working on an art show in conjunction with Ink Oasis Club (Chinese Painting Club) to build clinics in China.

Outlook for next school year: In fall 2008, we are planning to organize a student-run art auction. Our next Swim-a-thon will be held again in early December of 2008 with a cause still to be determined. In spring 2009, we would like to hold an outdoor sports event along with a barbecue.
