Club Description

Andover Mock Investment Club is tailored towards those students on campus who wish to learn, through experience, the basics of portfolio organization and stock investment. AMIC usually meets four times a month; the first time the club meets, members are given a list of stock tickers and up to a million “mock” dollars and are told to invest the money in any way they like (within certain constraints). Over the course of the next three meetings, AMIC board members help the students to track their investments (which follow real stock market scenarios) and give helpful hints and tips regarding healthy investments, including but not limited to advice on diversification and rebound trading. At the end of the month, the “winner,” or the student who earns the most “mock” dollars from his or her investment, is given a cash prize, usually $50. The club then goes over the “winners” and “losers” and the good and bad decisions that they underwent. As the year goes on, the board members make the investment constraints gradually more and more complicated. Examples of this include the adding of a bank or of commissions. In this way, the Andover Mock Investment Club hopes to provide the student body an opportunity to gain hands-on experience with the stock market in a scenario where there is virtually no risk involved.
