Raj Mundra
Assistant Dean of CAMD
In addition to serving as an instructor in the biology department, Mundra is the Assistant Dean of Community and Multicultural Development (CAMD). He is also the faculty advisor to the IndoPak Club
In supporting the work of CAMD, Mundra is a member of the Multicultural Advisory Committee, serves as a Co-Advisor to Community Awareness for Everyone (CAFE), takes part in the new student orientation program that CAMD designs, helps develop the Martin Luther King Jr. Day program, and helps with interviews for faculty positions. He collaborates with other members of the CAMD staff in offering resources to faculty designing inclusive curriculum. He also helps develop programs that promote sensitivity to racial, ethnic, cultural, religious, and sexual orientation issues on campus and takes a leadership role in creating professional development opportunities for faculty as Phillips Academy implements the Strategic Plan.
During the 2005-2006 school year , Mundra coordinated a number of panel discussions related to multiculturalism. CAMD-sponsored panel discussions open to the public and featuring faculty, alumni, and local experts on a number of topics including "Race and Poverty in the Aftermath of Hurricane Katrina," "Natural Disasters: Causes and Consequences," "Cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad: Mis-Understanding the Controversy," and "Islamophobia: What's the Threat?"
Mundra graduated from Brandeis University in Waltham, MA in 1991 with a B.A. in biochemistry, and received his M.A.T from Brown University in 1995. He was a teaching fellow at Phillips Academy in 1991-1992 and has also taught in Switizerland, India, Kenya and New York City. He came back to Phillips Academy in 1996 as an instructor in biology. He worked with the International Academic Partnership (IAP) for 7 years in a variety of roles including that of Associate Dean.
Currently, he is a house counselor and academic advisor in Rockwell Hall, which is the largest ninth grade boys dorm, and a coach for the varsity football team. For the past two Decembers through the International Academic Partnership (IAP), he has led a group of PA students for 2 weeks to Mumbai, India to live and work with German and Indian students to learn about children's rights in India. This past summer, Mundra worked with the National Human Rights Commission in Delhi, India. Over the years, he has also been the advisor to the International Club, the International Student Coordinator, and coached JV swimming and JV2 boys lacrosse. In 2006, Andover awarded him The Mesics Family Campaign Andover Instructorship.
