“We grow to understand ourselves and those around us”

Simone - Class of 2008 Gloucester, Massachusetts

Simone first discovered Phillips Academy as the young daughter of two artists in residence. Years later, while a student here, she discovered the world.

Thanks to global learning initiatives, opportunities for travel, and a student body with a distinctly international flavor, this award-winning photographer and artist from nearby Gloucester, Mass., says she has become more socially aware and mature. “We grow to understand ourselves and those around us,” Salvo says of Andover students.

Supportive of the Academy’s quest to draw youth from every quarter, Simone also trumpets the Academy’s ability to send youth to every quarter. Andover supported her past travels to Mexico and Thailand—and her PA attendance helped secure her a “gap year” spot as a junior fellow at King’s Academy in Jordan. “Andover has fostered my love of learning and has provided me opportunities I never would have had the means to pursue otherwise,” she explains. “The King’s Academy initiative provides the ability for me to make a contribution to the boarding school experience I love, and that has completely changed my life.”
