“I just love inspiring this same love for learning in kids.”
Catherine - Upper
As an eighth grader, Catherine didn’t know what she wanted to gain from going to Andover, “I was just seeking something more.” Within weeks of her arrival, she found it—at PA’s Office of Community Service.
“Andover has its very special way of allowing students to do everything at once and fall in love with it all while doing so; and eventually, everyone finds their ‘thing’. I soon learned that my thing was community service.”
Catherine does three community service programs a week —Si Se Puede, the Lawrence Boys & Girls Club, and YDO (Youth Development Organization) SSAT Prep — in which she tutors local kids and helps them with their homework.
“My parents raised me to value education and the potential it provided; and in doing community service, I just love inspiring this same love for learning in kids.”
Catherine says she has always been eager to learn and acquire “all of the knowledge that I possibly could ... but I never actually realized how much that would eventually allow me to become more sure of myself and of what I love to do.”
“In such an active and diverse community, finding your passion— whether it be arts, athletics, social justice issues, or all three—just comes naturally for everyone. I’m so incredibly grateful for that.”
