“I consider everything I do part of my curriculum.”

Jennifer - Class of 2010 Bolingbrook, Illinois

Jenn’s days at Phillips Academy are filled with what most students would deem extra-curricular activities – theatre, the school newspaper, debate club and photography. But to Jenn, these so-called “extras” have taught her as much about herself as any subject in the classroom. “I consider everything I do part of my curriculum, whether faculty are involved or not,” she says. “When students are in charge, that’s when you really have to rise to the occasion. That’s how you grow.”

Though she admits she came to PA for its strong academic program, Jenn has since found that her involvement in activities beyond the classroom has been more rewarding than she ever thought possible. A gifted writer whose essays, poems, and commentary pieces have appeared in nearly every student publication on campus, Jenn thrives on self-expression in all forms. “The great thing about Andover is, it takes what you’re passionate about and helps you expand on it. You learn that you can still grow even after you’ve grown so much already.”

Jenn is looking forward to writing a philosophical novel as an independent project during her senior year.
