"The community is really accepting of anything you try."

Duncan - Class of 2010 Melrose, MA

Duncan has attended Phillips Academy for three years and his strategy for juggling everything on his plate is simple: break each day up into small segments and do as much as you can. “I’ve found that if I just focus on one thing at a time like ‘right now I have to do good on this test’ or ‘for the next hour I need to practice with my teammates,’ then things aren’t so overwhelming,” says Duncan.

Time management is key for someone like Duncan who has found his voice singing with The Yorkies, PA’s boys a capella group, and his own rock band, 7-Layer Crunchwrap Supreme. He is also a member of the wrestling team, plays ultimate Frisbee, participates in WPAA, serves as a Chinese language coordinator and co-founded Darsana, a student group dedicated to open discussions on Eastern religions.

Whether it’s the Arts, athletics, or academic clubs, it seems like there isn’t anything Duncan hasn’t tried. “My favorite thing about PA is how encouraging the campus is to trying new things. I never sang before I came to school here and now singing is one of the biggest parts of my life,” he says. “Because students here have so many talents and come from so many different places, the community is really accepting of anything you try.”
