"All of the teachers make everything really engaging and it pushes you farther than you think you can go.”

Diana came to Andover looking for an academic challenge and she’s gotten exactly that. “I didn’t know what work was until I came to Andover. At my old school I could spend 15 to 20 minutes on homework and still get good grades, but I didn’t feel like I was advancing or learning anything,” says Diana.
“Proof and Persuasion was probably the hardest class I’ve taken so far,” Diana says. “It’s a class on the study of logic. We sit around a big table, have class discussions, read various texts, take quizzes—what we’re learning makes you re-think everything.”
“For the class we had to write a 20 page term paper. It was really hard, but at the same time really rewarding. Once I finished that, I felt like I could do anything,” Diana says, who also plays varsity soccer and runs track.
Diana currently cites chemistry as her favorite subject thanks to her teacher, Mr. Maqubela. “He won’t help you with a problem if he knows you can figure it out on your own,” Diana says. “Not giving you the easy option makes you work harder. All of the teachers make everything really engaging and it pushes you farther than you think you can go.”
