“Andover is a great place with an amazing community, and I think part of me will always consider it my home.”
Annette - Senior
When Annette is stressed, she picks up the volleyball and her worries seem to fade away. “My team is great. Volleyball is definitely my favorite activity!” Playing since junior year at Andover, Annette is now the co-captain of the team. It’s not her only activity, though. Like many Andover students, she enjoys exploring previously untapped interests. “I am an online editor of The Phillipian, participate in community service, and am the student body co-president.
“My upper year, I was fortunate to Prefect, and I am returning to Adams [dorm] this fall as a Proctor,” Annette adds. Within each dorm, an upper class student applies for and is selected as a Proctor or Prefect. Proctors live in the upper class dorms and Prefects live in the junior dorms. House counselors count on these leaders to ensure that fellow students are successfully navigating life at Andover.
Annette feels a strong connection to PA, which is invaluable in helping her to fulfill her role in the dorm. “I remember the first time I called Andover home,” she says. “I was talking with my mom during junior winter, and I told her I was heading home. She had a small panic attack and reminded me that HOME was in Texas with her.” Annette says that she has always felt welcomed on the Hill, and to her it seems natural to refer to her dorm as home. “Andover is a great place with an amazing community, and I think part of me will always consider it my home,” she says.
