Language Learning Center

The Language Learning Center (LLC) is an all digital language lab located in the lower level of Samuel Phillips Hall.  In 1996 Phillips Academy was the first high school and one of the few educational institutions nationally to create a fully digital Language Learning Center.  The LLC has 40 student stations and 3 instructor consoles running the Sony Soloist/Virtuoso System.  with the Sony software teachers can communicate with students in groups or individually, easily create and administer oral exercises and assessments, encourage student collaboration on projects and drills, and provide access to media rich environment that helps participants make virtual visits to the countries and cultures where the target language is spoken.  In addition, students are often assigned to work individually in the lab, outside of normal class hours.  Such assignments might require oral practice, original film projects, or research on the Internet.

The Language Learning Center also offers training to faculty in the educational use of technology, assistance in the creation of class materials, and the LLC also offers audio/visual equipment loans to students and faculty for class projects.  The LLC also hosts a multimedia website, featuring on-demand access to LLC resources.

Gospel Choir, made up of at least 50 voices, sings at Kwanzaa, at the annual Gospelfest concert, and at the annual Martin Luther King Jr. celebration.
