Stephanie Sparling Williams Joins the Addison as Assistant Curator and Visiting Scholar

Stephanie Sparling Williams, who holds a doctorate from USC in American Studies and Ethnicity and recently a fellowship at the Yale University Art Gallery, has joined the Addison as Assistant Curator and Visiting Scholar. During the next year, she will work with the Addison’s curatorial staff on exhibitions, object research, and acquisitions, while teaching two classes at Phillips Academy in Art History. ART 400: Exploring the Addison gives students the opportunity to engage deeply with the Addison’s collection, specifically its robust photography holdings, in order to curate an exhibition set to open at the gallery this November. The second class, ART 465: What Is America and American Art? utilizes the Addison’s permanent collection to explore the roles of art and art museums in society—how aspects of history and culture are portrayed, expressed, and shaped by art and in art collections.
