More than 130 students, faculty and staff witnessed acclaimed British Islamic graffiti artist Muhammed Ali as he created his aerosol mural Friday afternoon at Phillips Academy. He wove Andover’s non sibi motto and the Muslim word “ithaar,” which means “altruism,” combining them with Christian and Islamic verses tied to similar themes, into a painting which will hang permanently on campus in a site yet to be determined. He was sponsored by the Arts Council of England and the Academy’s Muslim Student Union. To see more photos of the work being created, click here. |
