Adopt a Pre-School Program in Belize
August 20, 2007
"Adopt a Pre-School Program in Belize" took place from August 11 to August 20. We had originally planned to leave on the 22nd, but we left two days earlier due to the coming of Hurricane Dean! We lived in the town of Corozal.
Four PA students participated - Thomas Smyth '08, Tessa Pompa '08, Cassidy Carpenter '08, and Erika Langley '08. They all are all seniors this year.
The major purpose of the trip was to give students a feeling for the life and culture in a town in the developing world. Other goals were do service in a pre- school to help teach the students English, which they will need when they will are ready for regular school, to paint and fix up the school, and to get to know some Belizean high school students of the same age who worked alongside our students. The teaching was excellent! Some children came early and some did not want to leave at the end of the morning! The school was completely painted inside and out as well as all the furniture, a play area and a new sign were also made. The Belizean teacher was overwhelmed with all the kindness and good work that was done!
