Summer session students taking John Briggs' "Introduction to Astronomy" class were treated to a spectacular morning sunrise on July 3 after staying up all night in the Gelb observatory tracking a near-Earth asteroid. The asteroid, known as 2004 XP14, passed within a quarter million miles of earth and is classified by astronomers as a "potential hazardous object."
