Meet the Alumni
Bill Weihofen 1958
New Mexico
Bill Weihofen ’58 was 14 when he first boarded a train from Albuquerque and headed east to Andover. “I found a school where learning was serious business, with a very high-level curriculum imparted by excellent teachers.” Bill flourished in physics and math under the watchful eyes of Peter McKee and Richard Pieters. He later received his Ph.D. degree in physics and went on to a career in teaching.
Recently, Bill made the trip back to Andover for his 50th Reunion—again from New Mexico but this time in a Honda hybrid with long-time companion Kay Wille.
Recognizing the importance of his Andover education, Bill decided to mark the occasion by entering into an Andover charitable remainder unitrust. Bill was able to leverage the size of his support to PA while helping to cover his own costs of retirement. “The great intellectual boost given by my Andover experience inspired a wish to ‘pay it forward’, so that many more young people might share that opportunity,” says Bill. “Also, the charitable remainder trust allowed me to establish the enabling gift free of time vicissitudes, and potentially, to maximize it. The trust also preserves a lifetime connection with Andover.”
