Need-Blind Admission

“Andover is the first place I truly have thought that everyone in my class wants to hear what I have to say. This has given me the confidence in myself to continue to speak my mind. Here, people want to learn from each other.”

“When I arrived at Andover, I was faced with true academic challenges for the first time in my life. This school pushes students beyond their limits and forces them to climb their way back up through hard work, determination, and strong will. Throughout this struggle, Andover is always there, reaching out with support and encouragement from teachers, advisors, and peers.”

Reaffirming the mission of Phillips Academy in the 2004 Strategic Plan, the Board of Trustees endorsed the community’s strategic goal of continuing to educate youth from every quarter Each year, more than a thousand talented and accomplished students bring as many points of view to a Phillips Academy environment that challenges them to their highest intellectual achievement.

The academic and social experience of sharing an education with youth from every quarter has prepared our thoughtful, balanced students for something more: service and leadership throughout the world. Over nine generations, our alumni have demonstrated distinction and leadership in virtually every walk of life.

Financial Aid

In the past six years, both the percentages of students on financial aid and the amount of the average grant have increased incrementally as we moved toward, and in 2008 achieved, need-blind admission.

Tuition provides only 55 percent of the approximately $66,000 needed yearly to educate each of our students. Every tuition increase carries with it the responsibility to offer more assistance to the 42 percent of students whose families cannot fully afford an Andover education. Despite these demands, we have maintained 10 percent of the student body on full scholarship.

Increasing both endowment and current use gift support for financial aid enhances our ability to continue to attract and matriculate the most qualified students of talent, integrity, and potential.
