The Neanderthal Genome Project -Has been CANCELLED due to weather

Start Date: February 16 7:00 PM
This event is open to the public

This meeting has been CANCELLED due to Tuesday's weather.  The next meeting will be March 16.

The Massachusetts Archaeological Society’s Northeast Chapter will host speaker Dr. Jerry Hagler, Department Chair, Biology, at the Peabody Museum.

In February, 2009, a first draft of the DNA sequence of the Neanderthal genome was announced. Using DNA isolated from the bones of Neanderthal skeletons, insights led to several questions about the Neanderthals: what they looked like, if they could speak, whether they interbred with modern humans. Dr. Hagler will present a summary of the latest findings derived from this genome sequencing effort and what these insights suggest about modern human evolution and our relationship with our most recent extinct relative.

Free and Open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
