'Nickel and Dimed' Author Barbara Ehrenreich to Speak Jan. 22

Barbara Ehrenreich Barbara Ehrenreich, one of America’s foremost cultural critics and writers, will present “Nickel and Dimed: Class, Race and Gender in America” in Cochran Chapel at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 22.

In her best-selling book, "Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America," Ehrenreich explores what it means to make a living by working at a minimum wage job. Inequality based on class and on gender have been two of the central concerns of her writing career. She is also the author of "The Hearts of Men: American Dreams and the Flight from Commitment"; "Bait and Switch: The (Futile) Pursuit of the American Dream"; "Re-Making Love: The Feminization of Sex"; "Fear of Falling: The Inner Life of the Middle Class"; and several other works.

This event is sponsored by the Brace Center for Gender Studies, CAMD, and the Dean of Studies office. A reception will follow the lecture.
