- What is the Andover Fund?
-
The Andover Fund directly supports faculty and students, ongoing technology and facilities needs as well as other Academy priorities. The Andover Fund offers alumni, parents and friends of Phillips Academy a special opportunity to support the highest current priorities of the Academy through their annual unrestricted giving. Most importantly, this broad-based support reflects the combined philanthropy of generations of PA and AA alumni(ae) who give generously at all levels.
- Doesn’t tuition cover these items?
-
Even full tuition pays for only about half of the actual cost of educating a student. The financial model that underpins the school’s operation depends on three principal sources of revenue: endowment income, tuition revenue and the philanthropy of alumni, parents, and friends. Your annual support is a vital component of that financial equation.
- Andover has an endowment; why not use that instead?
-
The income from Phillips Academy’s endowment is one of the principal sources of funding for the Academy and is used every year to support campus priorities. However, much of that income is restricted to certain purposes and cannot replace unrestricted current dollars necessary for day-to-day operating expenses.
- Does my Andover gift count toward my reunion?
-
Absolutely. Every year your class will have a goal to reach. In your reunion year, your specific goal for that year will be combined with the previous years' total, thus giving you one grand total.
- Can I designate my gift?
-
You can voice your choice. Since the unrestricted dollars raised by the Andover Fund are designated for faculty support, scholarship support, technology, and campus renewal, the Academy urges you to choose one of those designations yourself.
- How does the Andover Fund conduct solicitations?
-
The Andover Fund mails appeals each fiscal year to anyone who has not made an Andover Fund gift in support of the annual class and reunion fund-raising efforts. These appeals are followed by phone requests from fellow alumni and student callers. We are counting on an Andover Fund commitment as part of every gift to the Academy. Consider making your pledge early in the year to save the Academy postage and telephone costs. Pledge completion is due on June 30, the end of the fiscal year.
- Will my gift make a difference?
-
Absolutely! Every tax-deductible gift makes a difference to the school. It also sends a powerful message that you believe in this institution and its educational program, and it has made a difference in your life.
- How many parents give to the Academy?
-
Parents and grandparents participate in the Andover Fund through the Parent Fund. Each year parents and grandparents contribute significantly to Andover.
- Can I match my gift?
-
Many companies will match your contribution as an employee/spouse, thereby doubling your gift to Andover. Check with your human resource office for the correct form.
- How do I make a gift?
-
Make your check payable to the Trustees of Phillips Academy and send it to Phillips Academy, Office of Academy Resources, 180 Main St., Andover, MA 01810. Visa, MasterCard, American Express charges and gifts of securities are welcome.
