Andover 1 Choate 3
At Choate on October 5, 2014 at 12:00 PM
Andover was hosted by the Wild Boars, for a rare Sunday match to honor the Jewish Holidays. Congratulations to the Choate team, extending their undefeated streak. Andover hopes to have the opportunity for a rematch.
In the first set Isabel Taylor stepped to the service line on the second rotation to give Andover a 5-2 lead. Choate tied it up 7-7, and then took a massive lead on a side out and 7 straight serves for an Andover deficit of 8-15. Eden Livingston sparked some hope when she served 5 straight to get Andover to 21-22. Choate forced the side-out and secured the first set 25-21.
The second set proved equally elusive for Andover, again 4 service errors giving away precious points. Andover fell behind 2-9 on just the second rotation, then the two teams held each other to mostly side-outs with Andover squeezing in a slight advantage on service points to bring the score 15-18, and 20-22. At that point Choate secured the three points necessary to take a 2-0 lead.
In the third set, Andover's offense came alive, though so did that of Choate. Both sides benefitted from a spark and exchanged points for 5 lead changes until 14-14. Andover, down 15-17, benefitted from Fran Trautman's serves for a 19-17 lead. Though Choate would tie it up at 20-20 and 21-21, Alex Becker served out the set to force a fourth.
Feeling slightly more courageous Andover swung harder and overcame a 3-5, 4-7 deficit on a 4-point serving streak by Nette Bell. Leading 9-8, 12-11 Andover succumbed to Choate side-out and 6-point serving streak of their own. Andover brought it to within three points at 17-20, but Choate's middles found their groove and sealed their win at 25-18.
Andover (4-2 in league, 7-2 overall) will host BB&N, Wednesday and Dana Hall on Saturday after a day off on Monday.
