GVS kicks off season with 2-0 victory on the road
At Milton on September 16, 2015 at 3:45 PM
Milton and Andover opened their respective seasons with Andover emerging victorious on a unusually hot fall afternoon on the road with goals by uppers Natalia Suarez and Cassie Chin.
After a week and a half of preseason, the Andover girls arrived to Milton eager to get the season in full swing. Nine returning starters from the #5 seeded Class A 2014 team stepped onto the field joined by newcomer Bri Fadden '17 and Cassie Chin '17. While the first 15 minutes of play saw both teams working out the excitement of opening day, the Andover girls settled into a rhythm late in the first half and controlled the ball thanks to the efforts of Olivia LaMarche '16, captain Jeanine Moreau '16 and Natalia Suarez '16. Captain Caroline Shipley drew a hand ball PK during the 27th minute and Natalia Suarez showed great composure by driving the ball low past the Milton keeper.
Courtney Masotti '17 came off the bench for the Big Blue in the midfield and provided an undeniable spark that turned the game in GVS' direction.
During the second half of play, the Andover girls impressively stepped it up a notch in spite of the hot weather. Bri Fadden moved from midfield to striker and inspired her teammates with finding space and talking on defenders. Cassie Chin '17 scrapped in front of the goal late in the second half to secure the win with an unassisted goal.
Goalkeeper Antonia Tamarro '17 secured the shutout with four saves. The Andover girls look forward to their home opener versus powerhouse Rivers School on Saturday at 2 p.m. on Smoyer Field. Go Big Blue!
