Family Weekend Win Over Deerfield, 1-0, Improves GVS record to 7-4-1

At home on October 29, 2016 at 3:00 PM

Family Weekend kicked off with Family Practice on Friday afternoon - highlighted by Cristina Suarez, mom of Natalia '17, earning Player of the Day. Less than 24 hours later, GVS took to Graves Field and earned a hard-fought 1-0 win over the Big Green.

On a misty fall afternoon, GVS tallied its lone goal just over halfway through the first half on a great slotted ball from co-captain Cassie Chin '17 to Zoe Oasis '17 to beat the Deerfield keeper. This goal would prove to be enough as Andover earned its 7th shutout of the season behind five saves from co-captain Antonia Tammaro. The Deerfield team came out strong in both halves but thanks to outstanding defensive play from Deyana Marsh, Tookie Wilson, Kaitlin Hoang, Nikki Dlesk and Brit Bourassa, the Green were unable to finish on in the final third. Deyana Marsh played one of her best games to date at center back and earned Player of the Game. Thanks to all our parents, grandparents and siblings who cheered from the sidelines. A special shout out to Mr. Palfrey who helped shagged balls during warm-ups and Ellie and Avery for running the sidelines. And of course, we could do what we do without our awesome managers/brothers, Ryan and Jack (so great to see your dad at Graves too!). Enjoy a well-deserved long weekend with family and friends!
