Andover and Choate Split the Wins

Ethan McIntosh '15 leads varsity to a 19-38 win, but JV falls short.
On Sunday, on a lovely fall afternoon, on Choate's fantastic cross-country course, the varsity boys raced to an exciting early-season victory. Captain Ethan McIntosh '15 ran well ahead of the field for most of the race and finished 1st with a brilliant time of 16:52, some 35 seconds ahead of the 2nd finisher, Choate's Aidan Gorman '16. A formidable Andover pack then took 3rd through 6th: Ralph Skinner '16 in 17:30, Paul McGovern '15 in 17:33, John Gorton '15 in 17:46, and Tom Burnett '15 in 17:55. Choate brought in their 3rd and 4th before Andover's 6th, Basil Alfaro '18, crossed the line in an impressive 18:08. Arthur Doran '15 finished 7th for Andover in 18:51 and was followed by Abhinav Venigalla '15 in 18:59, Keton Kakkar '15 in 19:08, and Kailash Sundaram '15 in 19:09. Andover wins, 19-38.
Ten more Andover runners took the line for the JV race. Colby Lapointe '16, running in his first dual meet, got out ahead and ran a steady, confident race to win in 18:48. Holden Ringer '17 finished 2nd for Andover and 3rd overall in 19:02. Although Choate brought in their 5th ahead of him, BrianPaul Robert '16 finished 3rd for Andover and 8th overall in a solid PR time of 19:12. Noah Belser '16 and Tevis Vitale '16 finished 4th and 5th for Andover in 19:22 and 19:55, respectively, and were followed by the rest of the JV squad: Alex Emerson '17 in 20:09, Ethan Brown '17 in 20:59, Sebastian Bishop '17 in 21:01, JongHo Park '16 in 21:14, and Avery Jonas '16 in 22:00. Andover loses, 34-24.
