After recovering from a Sunday meet at Choate, the Andover varsity and JV boys showed the benefits of an intense training week with two victories against a strong St. Paul's squad on a temperate Wednesday afternoon. In the first home meet of the season, Ethan McIntosh '15 ran away from the field to take first place in a time of 16:29. Finishing second after an exciting third mile, Paul McGovern '15 broke 17 minutes for the first time, crossing the line in 16:50. Trailing St. Paul's top two runners, Ralph Skinner '16 and John Gorton '15 both finished in 17:10, and following another two St. Paul's competitors, Tom Burnett '15 rounded out Andover's top five with a time of 17:33. Strong races from Colby Lapointe '16 (17:43), who made his varsity cross-country debut, Abhinav Venigalla '15 (18:31), and Holden Ringer '17 (18:54) bode well as the team moves into the second half of the season. Andover wins, 23-32.
Keton Kakkar '15 and Kailash Sundaram '15 paced a large field of runners to claim the top two spots in the JV race in 18:45 and 18:58, respectively. PA runners then took 3rd through 8th places with great races from Max Lee '15 (19:10), BrianPaul Robert '16 (19:15), Noah Belser '16 (19:24), Tevis Vitale '16 (19:32), Reed Findlay '18 (19:35), and in a strong season debut, Jacob Peffer '17 (19:35). The Andover JV team competed well, running in pairs and in packs to push each other and continue the good work they have put in over the last few weeks of training. Andover wins, 15-50.
With the next race not for another ten days, the Andover boys hope to continue their training momentum while preparing for an away meet at NMH on October 18th.
