Andover Loses Close Races to Exeter

Ethan McIntosh '15 breaks 16:00 to take first!
Kicking off the Andover-Exeter festivities a week early, the Andover cross-country boys traveled to Exeter and ran well against a poised Exeter squad. Running a brilliant strategic race, captain Ethan McIntosh '15 took the top spot and went under 16:00 for the first time, finishing in 15:49. Exeter got two in before Andover's second, John Gorton '15 (16:33), who made a strong final move to get ahead of Exeter's third. Paul McGovern '15 and Ralph Skinner '16 followed close behind, crossing the line together in 16:42. Andover's next pair, Colby LaPointe '16 and Tom Burnett '15, also ran well together, finishing in 17:04 and 17:06, respectively. Arthur Doran '15 (17:46) and Abhinav Venigalla '15 (18:00) raced to season-best times, rounding out the Andover varsity team. Exeter wins, 27-29.
A large JV team traveled up north to compete in the final interscholastic dual-meet of the season, and most pushed themselves to season-best or career-best times. Jacob Peffer '17, continuing his incredible trajectory of improvement, finished as Andover's top runner with a PR of 17:57, trailing just two Exeter runners. Max Lee '15 (18:06), Keton Kakkar '15 (18:09), and Holden Ringer '17 (18:11) followed close behind, all running season-best times. Good pack-running by BrianPaul Robert '16 (18:25), Tevis Vitale '16 (18:26), and Noah Belser '16 (18:26) capped a strong showing by the scoring JV team. The rest of the JV followed: Kailash Sundaram '15 (18:37), Alex Emerson '17 (19:15), Jake Zanazzi '18 (19:25), Alex Leibovitz '16 (19:32), Sebastian Bishop '17 (20:07), John Wu '17 (20:07), Avery Jonas '16 (21:00), Jeff Zaeder '18 (21:57), Isaac Newell '18 (22:14), Glib Stronov '16 (22:26), Tas Yusoontorn '15 (22:42), and Josh Lee '17 (22:46). Exeter wins, 23-32.
Andover varsity and JV runners look forward to the NEPSTA Division 1 Interscholastic Championships next Sunday, November 9, at Hotchkiss.
