JV runners sweep the field

The Andover boys’ cross country team came away with three wins at St. Paul’s, besting Thayer in both the Varsity and JV races and splitting the wins against a strong St. Paul’s team.

In the Varsity race, the top two runners from St. Paul’s ran brilliantly to take first and second overall. Holden Ringer ‘17 (17:19) was Andover’s first finisher, fighting off a strong surge from a St. Paul’s runner to claim third place. Henry Spritz ‘19 (18:00) and Colby Lapointe ‘16 (18:01) continued to run well together, finishing in seventh and eighth and pushing each other past a St. Paul’s runner in the last stretch of the race. Nathan Goldthwaite ‘18 matched his PR of 18:14 with another strong race, and Patrick Dolan ‘16 finished close behind in 18:26. Senior Noah Belser ‘16 (18:42) and junior Jacob Buehler ’19 (19:11) rounded out the Varsity. Andover beat Thayer 16-47 and lost to St. Paul’s 39-18.

Andover JV runners raced to strong performances with smart pack running. Setting the tone, Alex Emerson ‘17 and Spencer Davis ‘18 led from gun to tape, finishing in 18:47 and 18:48, respectively. After a St. Paul’s runner took third, Andover runners took fourth through tenth places. Will Kantaros ‘18 ran to a PR in 19:26, and John Wu ‘17 went under 20-minutes for the first time, finishing in 19:27. Jake Zanazzi ’18 and Sebastian Bishop ’17 crossed the line next, shoulder-to-shoulder, with times of 19:35. Sam Tobin ’18 (19:38), Harvey Zheng ’19 (19:41), and Abdu Donka ’18 (19:45) followed close behind, and trailing a St. Paul’s runner, David Cohen ’18 (20:11) came through to take twelfth place. Ethan Brown ’17 (20:24) and Jack O’Neil ’19 (21:02) ran strong races as well. Andover JV beat Thayer 15-50 and beat St. Paul’s 18-48.

Next Saturday (10/24/15), the Andover runners will welcome NMH to the home course on Family Weekend.
