Varsity Runs to a Win at Deerfield

Holden Ringer ’17 leads the way with another PR

The Andover boys’ cross country team traveled to Deerfield on a beautiful fall afternoon and raced to a win against great competition from a strong Deerfield team.

Leading the way for Andover in the combined Varsity and JV race, Holden Ringer ’17 outdueled Deerfield’s top runner to capture first in a personal-record time of 16:26. Next for Andover came captain Ralph Skinner ’16 (16:59), who ran a smart, patient race in his season debut, and Henry Spritz ’19 (16:59), who continued his upward trajectory with another stellar race. Skinner and Spritz pushed each other throughout the course and crossed the line together to secure third and fourth places, respectively. A spirited final kick by Deerfield’s second runner pushed him ahead of Colby Lapointe ’16, who ran brilliantly with a season’s best time of 17:07. Nathan Goldthwaite ’18 (17:25) and Patrick Dolan ’16 (17:27) finished next for Andover followed by Alex Emerson ’17 (17:57), who raced to his first sub-18 performance. Andover won, 22-35.

Noah Belser ’16 fronted the JV side of the team with a strong personal-record time of 18:02. After Belser, Spencer Davis ’18 (18:25) led a pack of Andover runners that included Jake Zanazzi ’18 (18:30), Sam Tobin ’18 (18:30), John Wu ’17 (18:33), Sebastian Bishop ’17 (18:33), Abdu Donka ’18 (18:39), Harvey Zheng ’19 (18:43), and Ethan Brown ’17 (18:50), all finishing in personal-record times. David Cohen ’18 (19:01), Will Kantaros ’18 (19:26), BrianPaul Robert ’16 (19:43), and Brett Sawka ’17 (19:46) rounded out the Andover squad with strong races.

Next Saturday (11/7/15), Andover hosts Exeter at the home course in the last dual meet before the New England championships.
