BVS opens the season with a win at St. Paul's
The PA boys’ varsity soccer team opened its season on the road against a very tough and disciplined St. Paul’s team. On a beautiful but hot day, the PA 11 tried to preserve energy by maintaining possession of the ball. In the effort, our midfielders worked well together and were able to string a series of passes that opened up the field for our strikers to operate. Our collective effort would be rewarded in the 9th minute of play as Brandon Girard ‘16 pounced on a loose ball in front of the six-yard box and made it 1-0 PA. The two squads would battle for the remainder of the first 40 minutes but the score would remain in PA’s favor and into the break we went. In the afternoon we received an excellent performance from our back four who allowed only a handful of long range shots. Ryan Fischer ‘16 in goal was not challenged for much of the match but played a flawless game and gave us a great deal of security in net.
In the second stanza, the Blues found the back of the net once again in the 63rd minute, this time off a cross from the left side of the box. A well placed cross was slightly deflected by one of our own and just like that, we were up 2-0. The game would continue to be fought in the middle of the pitch with PA having much of the possession and the Pelicans defending well. In the end, it was a great day for the PA 11 who recorded their first win of the season with a final score of 2-0. We would like to recognize those who made the drive to Concord to support the team. Your presence certainly makes us work harder. Next stop, Brooks. We hope to have your support there as well.
