A solid effort but not enough
At Smoyer Field on September 20, 2017 at 3:15 PM
Andover, MA- PA took on a skilled Milton Academy team on Smoyer Field this afternoon. As quickly as the whistle blew, the Mustangs went on the attack and with quick ball movement marched up the field. The pace at which the visitors started to play was a challenge, but our defense, led by Hayden Weatherall '18 (Ipswich, MA) and Morgan Cutts '18 (Allston, MA) did not allow for the visitors to threaten the goal. It took us a few minutes to warm up to the game, but eventually, Rolando Rabines '19 (Topsfield, MA) began combining with teammates Owen Glover '19 (Andover, MA) and Andres Marx (Chicago, IL) which led to the opening spaces for others operate. On one of those quick combinations, Andover caught Milton off guard and pushed forward and earned a corner kick. The service delivered by Rabines '19 found an open William Raphael '18 (Andover, MA) for the header to make it 1-0 Blue. The goal marks Will's second of the season in as many games and Rolando's first assist. Sadly, the celebration did not last long as the Mustangs would go the other way and tie the game three minutes later on a free kick that the boys in blue were not able to cleanly clear. At the half, both teams knotted 1-1.
In the second half, both teams had their chances. Unfortunately, Milton capitalized on two, and we only scored on one of ours making the final score 3-2 visitors. Our second goal was scored by Andres Marx '18 who hammered home a well struck shot from the top of the 18. The goal is Andres' first of the season. A lot of lessons were learned this afternoon at Smoyer, and forward they help us move. From here, the boys in Blue focus on the road ahead and prepare to host another talented team on Friday, Loomis Chaffee. Come and support us at Phelps Stadium. 7 PM Kickoff. GO BLUE!
