PA shines under the lights

At Phelps Stadium on September 22, 2017 at 7:00 PM

Andover, MA- On a rare Friday evening, the PA 11 took on a talented and undefeated Loomis Chaffee team on Phelps Stadium. Loomis came into the contest with an unblemished 3 and 0 record, while scoring 17 goals in those three matches and only allowing two. With that said, behind some great fans, the boys in Blue were up for the challenge. In the first half, Loomis possessed the ball, pushed numbers up and made our defense work. Our defense, led by Max Levi '19 (Wilton, CT) in goal, Hayden Weatherall '18 (Ipswich, MA) and Morgan Cutt's (Allston, MA) '18 as center backs stood their ground and while Loomis enjoyed possession, they could not get clear looks at the goal. However, Loomis' Michael Suski in the 33rd minute of play put the visitors ahead after a spectacular individual effort. Suski, collected the ball in the box and made a quick turn on two defenders and shot the ball low and to the far corner to put Loomis up one nil at the half. In the second stanza, the boys in Blue came alive and were determined to defend their home turf and reverse the score. The tying goal for the home team came quickly into the second half by way of Andrei Dumitrescu '18 (N. Andover, MA) who broke through the Loomis defense in the 49th minute and finished a beautiful through ball played by Owen Glover '19 (Andover, MA). After tying the game, the boys in Blue became inspired and behind an incredible home crowd, the Blue team began knocking the ball around and creating spaces. It would not take long for the effort to pay off, and in the 55th minute of play senior captain, William Raphael (Andover, MA) hammered home, from a set piece, his first goal of the evening. Up 2-1, the PA squad wanted more goals to secure the victory, and in the 58th minute, Raphael would strike again. This time Raphael was set up by teammate Rueben Philip '18 (N. Andover, MA) who placed a perfect ball for Raphael to score his second of the night. The scoring for the home team was not done, and in the 67th minute of play, Dumitrescu would get his second of the evening. Dumitrescu's goal was assisted by Rolando Rabines '19 (Topsfield, MA) who played a perfect through ball for Dumitrescu to score his second tally. Overall, tonight was a true team effort, and the boys should be proud of a total collective achievement. Thanks to all the parents and supporters who came out on this chilly night. Your presence kept us warm and motivated us to work harder. As always, we move forward. Next up, Holderness.
