Boys's Swimming and Diving Captures 7th New England Championship

At Hotchkiss on March 5, 2017 at 10:30 AM

11 records and 4 All-American performances

(Lakeville, CT) – One week after placing second at the prestigious Eastern Championships—where Andover achieved 75% personal bests across all swims—the Big Blue returned to the pool to defend its New England title. In a remarkable follow-up performance, the Boys achieved 42% personal bests across all swims at New Englands.

Because of these performances, and performances in the relays, Andover was able to win its 7th title since 2007. The final team scores: Andover (401), Suffield (312.5), Brunswick (296), Choate (243), Deerfield (225.5), Exeter (209).

With only one victory, Neil Simpson ’19 in the 200 Individual Medley, Andover dominated the meet with its depth, best represented in its relays. In a single day, Andover swam 1:34.95 in the 200 Medley Relay, 1:25.37 in the 200 Freestyle Relay, and 3:05.79 in the 400 Freestyle Relay. Each of these is among the fastest in school history.

Other highlights of the meet—and ones that bode well for the future—include Andover’s continued assault on its record board. Arnold Su ’20, Sam Donchi ’20, Anthony Minickiello ’20, and Adam Vlasic ’20 each established new Junior Records. One week after breaking Brian Fiske’s ’03 Lower Record in the 100 Breaststroke, Neil Simpson ’19 broke his record in the 200 Individual Medley. And Nick Isenhower ’18 lowered his own Upper Record in the 100 Freestyle.
