Nordic Skiing

The Nordic Skiing Team at Andover offers a unique blend of competitive spirit and camaraderie among all of its skiers. The co-educational team consists of a varsity racing squad and a training squad. Many skiers are new to the sport, and apt instruction is given to those who do not make the varsity squad but aspire to that level. Training occurs outside for most of the winter season.

The varsity squad competes in the Lakes Region league, racing on Wednesdays and occasional Saturdays, allowing time for select members of the team to train on Saturdays at the Waterville Valley Resort or other nearby ski areas. These practices usually offer a more varied terrain and ideal snow conditions. While Andover is occasionally short of snow, roller skiing, dry land technique drills, distance running, and circuit training help cross-train team members for the time when ample snow returns. The team has been very successful in recent years, competing at the NEPSAC level as well as in the Lakes Region Conference. The girls’ varsity has placed third in the NEPSAC championship meet in 1999, 2005, and 2006.
