PA falls in final game
The JV softball team lost a nail-biter this Wednesday, just one run short of a win in their final game with a score of 12-13. Still, the game was by far the JV’s strongest of the season. Top highlights included: Fantastic pitching by both Katie Benvenuti and Heather Menar, splitting the game at three innings apiece (both players also put up a strong infield defense, at shortstop and third base, respectively); a graceful double-play by second baseman Sammy Gray, nabbing a pop-fly herself and firing the ball to Hannah Finnie at first to get the lead runner; Julianna Aucoin’s fearless baserunning, starting off the game with three consecutive stolen bases (none of them on a wild pitch) and ultimately slamming two singles to the outfield; Jeannine Anderson’s similarly strong baserunning, including one sprint to first that beat out an infield hit; Kate Taylor-Mighty’s RBI and crucial pop-fly catch at third base; Maya Odei with two RBI and a terrific throw from shortstop to first to make a close out; Rachel Margolese’s excellent start as catcher and, later in the game, her hard-hit single through the infield; Hannah Finnie’s RBI and consistent infield defense, taking three outs herself; Charlotte Cleveland’s two stolen bases and overall confident baserunning; and Aneissa Urias’s masterful handling of first base, including a tough scoop on a short-hop throw to make the last out of a close inning. It’s been a great season, and this team has much to be proud of!
