Andover fights tough in loss

The JV softball team played a hard-fought game against Lawrence Academy this Friday, and although the lead changed several times during the game, Lawrence Academy took the day with a final score of 8-11. The Big Blue stayed positive, though, and racked up many highlights, including starting pitcher Casey McQuillen ’11’s strong infield defense, making two sharp throws to Aneissa Urias ’12 at first base, one of them beating out a bunt attempt by Lawrence; relief pitcher Katie Benvenuti ’12 with a similarly strong defensive instinct, fielding three infield hits herself and looking confident in her first game as pitcher; Rachel Margolese ’12 and Julianna Aucoin ’12 splitting time as catcher as well as earning three RBI between them; a stellar pop-fly catch by Aneissa Urias at first; a crucial out by Heather Menar at third, who threw a terrific throw from deep infield to first; and a slew of stolen bases in the fifth inning by Kate Taylor-Mighty ‘11, Maya Odei ’12 (who stole home earlier in the game to earn PA’s first run), Sammy Gray ’12, Katie Benvenuti (who stole second her own walk), Casey McQuillen, Jeannine Anderson ‘12, and Na Young Park ’12. PA will play its last game of the season against St. Mark’s this Wednesday.
